TL;DR: LHD means the steering wheel is on the left, for countries that drive on the right. Every car built for the Chinese domestic market is LHD, which is why China exports well to Ghana and Nigeria and badly to Kenya or Tanzania.
LHD (left-hand drive) describes a car with the steering wheel on the left-hand side, designed for road networks where traffic keeps to the right. RHD (right-hand drive) is the mirror image.
China drives on the right, so the entire domestic used-car pool is LHD. That makes the arithmetic simple for buyers: if your country drives on the right, Chinese used stock is directly usable. Ghana and Nigeria both drive on the right, which is one of the reasons they are our primary markets.
If your market is RHD, a Chinese used car is the wrong purchase. Conversion is technically possible but costs roughly $3,000-5,000, moves the pedals, steering rack, dashboard and wiring, and leaves you with a car that is harder to insure, harder to service and worth substantially less at resale. Several African markets also restrict or ban converted vehicles outright. We do not sell converted cars and we do not quote RHD markets, because the result is a car that disappoints on arrival.
Check your own market’s rule before you buy anything, not just from us: a few countries that drive on the right still restrict imports by age or emissions standard, and that is a separate check from the drive-side question.
